National Premier Leagues: A New Era Kicks Off in 2025!

A new chapter for the National Premier Leagues (NPL) is set to unfold this week with the launch of the 2025 Men’s competition, which offers clubs a chance to compete for a spot in the inaugural National Second Tier (NST) competition. As announced by Football Australia, the competition will feature eight invitational clubs, including the Member Federation NPL State Premiers from their respective 2025 domestic seasons. These teams will join the eight foundation clubs of the NST in a ‘Champions League’ format, kicking off on October 10, 2025. Clubs will earn their place in the national competition based on sporting merit, heightening the profile of the NPL and generating excitement within the local football community.

According to the 2024/25 Domestic Match Calendar (DMC), the season’s opening match will see Football VIC’s Melbourne Knights FC take on Heidelberg United FC at Tompsett Stadium on Thursday, February 6 (7:30 PM AEDT). The following day marks the start of Football NSW’s NPL Men’s season, with Manly United FC hosting Central Coast Mariners FC at Cromer Park on Friday, February 7 (7:30 PM AEDT).

NNSW Football will launch their season on Thursday, February 13, with Belmont Swansea United FC facing Adamstown Rosebud FC at Blacksmiths Oval (7:45 PM AEDT). The NPL Men’s Competitions in Football SA and Football QLD will commence on Friday, February 21, featuring Campbelltown City SC versus MetroStars SC at Steve Woodcock Sports Centre (8:00 PM AEDT) and Gold Coast Knights FC against Lions FC at Croatian Sports Centre (8:30 PM AEDT).

The NPL season for Football TAS will begin with a double-header on Friday, March 14 (8:15 PM AEDT), where Glenorchy Knights FC will take on Clarence Zebras FC at KGV Park, and Launceston FC will face Launceston United FC at Prospect Park. Football West is set to kick off their league on the same day with a match between Bayswater City SC and Sorrento FC at Frank Drago Reserve (10:15 PM AEDT). Capital Football will commence their season on Saturday, April 5, with fixture details yet to be confirmed.

In terms of the NPL Women’s Competition, Football QLD will lead the charge as Sunshine Coast Wanderers FC hosts Gold Coast United FC at Ballinger Park on Saturday, February 8 (6:00 PM AEDT). NNSW Football will follow suit on Saturday, February 15, with New Lambton FC going head-to-head against Charlestown Azzurri FC at Alder Park (6:00 PM AEDT).

Football NSW will feature an exciting opening round of NPL Women’s matches on Sunday, March 9, including a rematch of the 2024 Grand Final, where Macarthur Rams FC will play APIA Leichhardt FC at Lynwood Park (5:00 PM AEDT). Football SA will open their season on Friday, March 7, with four matches, including a showdown between Adelaide University FC and Adelaide City FC at Service FM Stadium (6:45 PM AEDT). Football VIC will begin on Friday, March 14, with matches including Bentleigh Greens SC versus South Melbourne FC at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex (6:15 PM AEDT).

Football West’s NPL Women’s competition will kick off on Saturday, March 22, with a fixture at Dorrien Gardens Trinca Field featuring Perth SC against Fremantle City FC (8:00 PM AEDT). Capital Football will also start their season on Saturday, April 5, with details to be confirmed.
