A tragic incident occurred off the coast of Australia when a female swimmer was fatally injured in a shark attack at a well-known tourist destination.

Emergency services responded to Woorim Beach on Bribie Island, located approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Brisbane, around 5 p.m. local time on Monday after receiving reports of a significant shark bite. According to Queensland state police, the swimmer sustained severe injuries from the attack and ultimately did not survive.

While authorities have not confirmed the victim’s age, reports from Australian media suggest she was a 17-year-old girl.

Local resident Christopher Potter noted that the beach is a popular spot for swimmers throughout the day. “It’s common knowledge that there are many sharks around Bribie, but to have an incident happen so close to the shore is still quite shocking,”.
